I remember when Nan died. I was going to do a reading at the funeral service and asked Alan what he remembered about her. He said his most vivid memory was of her sitting in her chair with a table in front of her which was covered in magazines and newspapers. She would occasionally remark on a story of interest and seemed to believe everything she read, like it was gospel.
I love that Alan remembered her like that. I remember visiting nan at the hospice, and in the funeral home, but I didn't see MY nan. MY nan was the lady who got worked up about stories in the papers, who fell asleep after dinner and woke herself up snoring! I remember the lady who taught me never to hate someone, yet always had an issue with some person or another herself!
One day, complaining about my dad, my nan told me I could have done a lot worse than him (of course being a bratty teenager I replied that I also could have done a lot better!). But when it comes to my nan, I know she had her flaws (many of which I have inherited!) but I certainly don't believe I could have done any better than have her as my nan.
I love you Nan, wherever you are, and hope that you are still keeping an eye on us (although not too closely!) and that you are proud of the people we have grown up to be.

10k run
Hi Nan,
I hope you were watching today. Alan ran the 10k run in your memory. He did well and raised a lot of money to try and help beat the evil C. It was inspiring to see so many people running in memory of loved ones, I just want to say thank you to all of the people who have run the 10k for Cancer Research, you are amazing.
We also released a balloon for you, a pink one of course! Hope you catch it!
Love you & miss you Nan, hope we make you proud xxxxxx
For a nan on her angel day xx
Nana can’t be with you, but remember this…
When you are lonely, curl up your fingers
Feel my hand in yours…
When you are happy, look to the stars
See my shining eyes…
When you are sad, sit in the sun
Feel the warmth of my love…
When you need me, walk in the garden
See me everywhere…
Know that I am with you, always
